Normal EEG And Inconclusive MRI Results
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Back history. I was diagnosed at 17 with epilepsy after 3 grand mals and 4 years of petit mals prior. I have had numerous MRIs as well as EEGs in that time. None of them have ever been normal.

I recently had both done. The EEG came back normal (this was a 26 hour long EEG). I know for absolute that I had 2 petit mal seizures and possibly one that they can't determine what they are. She said none showed at all. Then the MRI was inconclusive. I have never had any doctor state that.

I never had trouble getting my disorder read by MRI or EEG. It always turns out normal for me. But I have heard many people mention similar situations as yours with EEG's and MRI's.

I have had a number of EEGs recently, all which appeared normal even though I know for a fact I experienced seizures during them. This is causing my current neurologist to give me an extra diagnosis of NEAD (psychogenic seizures), even though I was already diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 15 and was misdiagnosed with NEAD once before. They are offering me no treatment, even though I am still on meds and are basically ignoring me after this. It is common for epileptic activity, especially if it frontal lobe to not actually show up on an EEG, depending on how deep in the brain it is. I really feel neurologists are not taking enough time to consider a proper investigation. I am positive you can request your medical records. It should have answers.

I agree with the suggestions above. However you current doc will generally want actual copies of the imaging (MRI) and you'll have to specifically ask for those. Often you'll get those directly from the radiology department rather than from medical records. Good luck. Hope they can figure things out for you.
