Seizures While Sleeping
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else ever have a seizure (not tonic clonic) in their sleep and find it hard to call back asleep?

But then sometimes during the day it can completely take your energy away?

Almost all seizures take energy away from you. After years of having them we don't realize it because our body has got so use to them but it's still tired. Just like when your so tired but don't feel it but if you try to fall asleep for little bit you're out.

I do some, I used to have sleep seizures but now I have not in about a year. Mine are worse after stress. I go dancing and try to get my mind off things and that helps me.

Seizures in my sleep is how my epilepsy was first discovered. Yes, sometimes it makes it difficult to get back to sleep. Also, I remain a little confused on dates and times. Plus, my memory of past events becomes a bit confused. Hopefully, God is with you and you'll learn to handle or live with the sleep problem.

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member
It sounds like you have had epilepsy since you were a baby.

I had epilepsy since I was a baby too. Many of the things your experiencing , I also experience . Your stairs are are absence AKA Peti Mal seizures. There are two possibilities with your blackouts. Either you having a side effect from your meds or you have a little activity in the vision part of your brain. I have blackouts too. But mine are a type of seizure.

You also mentioned about getting very angery and very excited. I also experience those. I try to keep my stress down, although it doesn’t always work. When I’m at parties , holiday get togethers , concerts and sporting events, all triggers me with high excitement. Those two things also triggers my seizures.

I normally seizure during the day . Every now and then I, seizure in my sleep.

When it comes to seizures, it’s normal that you feel very confused and exhausted. Especially if the seizure was very strong.

It’s been awhile for me feeling exhausted from a seizure, but a longtime back , I was having bad seizures. So bad that I slept to the next day. I was confused what day it was .
