Feeling Like You "check Out"?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is sooo hard to describe but this happens frequently and I feel like an oddity. Daily I will be conversing with people and have the sensation that I have to reacquaint myself with surroundings/conversations, like I checked out momentarily. Im still talking but feel like "is that me talking? Yep. I feel like they have noticed and am embarrassed. This happens in all types of situations, not just conversations. Anyone else experience this?

Yes, but after a while have no choice but, learn to live with it. When I was told this I thought in this modern world that’s your best answer? So I started researching and experimenting with meds and found some worked better then others, FOR ME. Also for me I started testing which foods and drinks made ME feel better. Having a piece of candy in those situations may help...or Fruit, juiced shakes may-does for me.

Not to make light of this but sometimes I wonder if I'm checked out more than I'm not. :) Really, your not alone, it's an awkward situation when it happens but I usually am up front about it and explain to whomever it is that I have epilepsy.

You have to nowadays. It's nothing to be ashamed of. If more would, many of our Politician's, Sport's Players, Doctors, Lawyers and list goes on. Would have been or be out of work.
