Your Experience Taking Keppra And Lamictal, How Is Are They Working For You?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm on Keppra and my doc wants me to start taking Lamictal. I've read a few things that worry me, I mean I'm doing great at work and some of the side effects, dizziness, sleepy, memory, weight gain. I don't want it to affect my job. How has that combo worked for you???

Every or almost every seizure med has a side effect of depression. I have been on anti-depressants for the whole time. Currently on Effexor. - they make you normal - not a "fake happy" like I thought before taking! If you are not on one - point this out to doc and have him start one. Having seizures and life's problems can make someone depressed - and your med adds to it. It was weird when I actually went thru it - I would start crying for no reason almost...stuff that made me happy were not working. Putting me on an anti-depressant made a world of difference!

side effects are a funny thing - one mans trash is another treasure! Really - go ahead and try and see what happens - if you see something bad - go back to doc and tell them!
Good luck!

I took 400mg of Lamictal twice daily (400mg in the morning & 400mg in the afternoon - total of 800mg). Everything seemed fine and then a few years later started to have absence seizures. I called my neurologist about it and he added 1000mg of Keppra (500mg in the morning & 500mg in the afternoon). Everything seems to be fine and has been working well. I didn't notice any side effects, just no more seizures.

Hi, I am taking keppra and lamotrigine
3,000 mg keppra twice daily
150mg lamotrigine twice daily
I've only been taking keppra for 1 year and lamotrigine for 3 months.
Before starting lamotrigine I was having seizures (full tonic clonic) most nights, from what I worked out myself i am most at risk between sleep and awake.
Lamotrigine has stopped these seizures but I still get many (8-10) partial seizures a day.
I lost weight on keppra but my weight has stabilised on lamotrigine.
But I have had trouble sleeping, acne, headaches, confusion, abnormal thirst, my veins are bulging as lamotrigine increases blood flow
I have also had really weird leg jerks that feel like they are coming from my stomach
My periods are all over the place, but that is expected with a med change.
My doctor wants to reduce or change the lamotrigine which scares the living s# @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member out of me, both med changes in the last year gave me some really serious seizures one of which my husband thought I'd had a stroke

I have a calcification on the left side of my brain just behind my ear this causes seizures in my left side mainly my left arm and hand
I have had 2 partial seizures writing this :-(

Keppra made me horribly depressed, for me personally it is in my top three nastiest meds. That being said many many people have great success with it, I hope you are one of those.
