Mini Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor says that I have mini seizures on top of my grand mal and epilepsy? I have never heard of anything like that before, but I getting really jerky and shaky and not able to hold on to things. It is so frustrating. I was just wondering if anyone else knows or has these?

I too have the mini seizures, my doctor told me their called peti-mals. I don't have too much trouble holding onto things though. For me it is more facial jerking & leg jerking.

I have experienced mini-seizures before. I was told by my neurologist these quick sudden jerks/twitching in your hands, arms, shoulders and whole body are from myoclonic seizures. These seizures will cause you to drop or spill things, know things over and may even cause you to fall. I also have Absence seizures which is also considered as a mild seizure type.

I too have this. It's scary at times and sad as well.

I also have mini seizures or medically known as petite seizures that come in the form of laughing spells(mainly coming in my sleep). I can be asleep for hours and wake up, start laughing(for no reason), and then go back to sleep. These last for about 1-2 minutes. Have had them since birth(started out as crying spells as a baby then grew to laughing spells as I grew older). I'm 31 and still have them, but haven't had a grand mal seizure for nearly 7 months. I was diagnosed with severe epilepsy at age 13 due to over active brain waves(in the right side of my brain) and an improperly draining sinus vein in the back of my brain. Keep the faith and continually trust in God. He'll make a way for your healing. He did mine. God bless

My husband has absence seizures. Stares off and isn't quite there. Those are in between his main seizures.
