Has Anyone Tried Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Or Mindfulness Techniques To Control Their Anxiety And Therefore Their Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My doc has insisted I sign up for CBT to try and manage my anxiety but I think anxiety because of epilepsy is different and I'm not sure these techniques work for us. Anyone have experience with this as a alternative to anxiety meds?

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member it is definitely worth a try. It helps you develop a mindfullness about your body and touch itself is amazingly healing. For your first one I would make sure you are clear to the massage therapist that you find that it is your fist ever massage and your medical history. You will have to let me know if it helps you! πŸ™‚

Well, I get a lot of anxiety when I feel an aura, and that seems to exacerbate my symptoms. Just breathing and observing whats happening. I feel overall improvements in clarity and calmness from meditating

Great - not so easy to come by in my office and my boss may be surprised by the request but it's good to know!! I have actually never had a massage but I think I should try now!

Honestly, when I feel my anxiety start to take over, I get a massage. It has helped me a ton.

It can work if you figure out your triggers. I ran a similar experiment myself back in 1982 or 1983 to reverse the affects of sleep by increasing my brain activity. I ran so many different experiments to figure out things that no one could explain. I'm not sure what happens at the molecular level yet, but I fairly good idea. But many of what I figured out still isn't in books, even advanced Neuroscience. Not sure if it can be crossed over into anxiety but I think some if it is applicable.
