A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Well it's called a lumbar puncture or spinal tap. Apparently they take some of the fluid (think it's the cereebral fluid) and it can tell a hell of a lot about your body and illnesses. It tells if you have had any kind of infection that may have caused the epilepsy

I've had epilepsy since I was a baby . I've been on many meds throughout my life, had surgeries, in the name of Epilepsy and my meds are still not 100% controlled . But I don't let it get to me. I know for a fact that I'm in the group of people that have a 5% chance of finding the right med combo to control them. I know how challenging it is. We just have keep faith and hope your Dr. comes with better suggestion on your next visit.

Idiopathic means that it starts from unknown reasons. My daughter has Idiopatheic Generalized Seizures. They started out of the blue.
