Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Hereditary Seizures

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Shreveport, LA

I was diagnosed several years ago with grand mal seizures, except that an EEG wouldn't detect them while I was having them. Was diagnosed with hereditary seizures. Was wondering has anyone else heard of the term or something similar??

Yes- my son has them. You are more sensitive to NOT taking medicine than any other seizure. It's good to know its hereditary but bad cause if you miss a dose you are at a higher risk to have a seizure if not multiple seizures! Good luck & don't forget to take your meds!

My Dad had grand mal seizures but I have petit mal seizures and have only had one grand mal. I didn't start having my seizures till the second grade when I hit my head on the monkey bars & so we don't know if I got them from that or my Dad or both. My brother doesn't have seizures. Take care! Your friend, Becky

Mine are thought to be hereditary. It is on both sides of my family.

Oh yes! Seizures are definitely hereditary in my family; my grandad, me, 3 cousins and my son. I don't know about anyone before my grandad, though.
