Has anyone tried the ketogenic diet? Any thoughts or advice on the diet?

I remember learning about that diet around 1980. The diet was conceived around 1920 but it was only for children with epilepsy at that time. I remember telling a Neurologist that I was seeing in the 80's about that diet. He just looked at me and told me it was a bunch of garbage. He is one of those doctors that thinks he knows everything. About 6 months to a year later I went back to see him and then he had all this material about the diet in his office. I just looked at him and repeated to him what he had said to me about the diet and why does he have all this information about it in his office if he thinks it is a bunch of garbage. He had no good answer for me. Then I found out what had happened. Some movie producer with a lot of $$ found the diet on the internet and didn't want his child on the medicine for epilepsy so he got all the neurologists in the LA area together to tell them about the diet. I saw if you have a lot of money and a big name that doctors will listen but if you don't he won't listen to you. Glad I'm not seeing him anymore.

I was on it for a few months and it helped me get my seizures under control. I would say it is at least worth a try!

Many children are put on this diet that are experiencing uncontrolled seizures. It works. I have heard that in adults the success rate is moderate, but the result can be that some adults have been Able to reduce meds. Hope it works for you, what have you got to lose?!?!?
