I have always worked, now at the age of 47 years old, my epilepsy is totally out of control, and I have had to disclose this to my company (never done this with any company). I'm naturally extremely concerned about finances and the outcome. My company is talking permant incapacity or to be medically boarded.
I couldn't agree with you more, I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and have 70 seizures in the last 3 weeks and they doing the same to me. I also can't drive now for 1 year, I still can't over the stigma attaches to Epilepsy in SA still, like we in the dark ages.
I need to drive for my job but as I have been fainting and had a seizure in February I will lose my job. I’ve had adjustments but I think I’ve gone as far as I can go. I have been with the company for 8 years am I entitled to severance pay due to Ill health ?
It's crazy actually. Epilepsy is classified as a disability so can't see why this has to be such an obstacle. With disability and UIF grants it is impossible to maintain expenses.
The worst is the unemployment rate in SA
I am also worried about my job with this. I was told I was covered by several laws. I have nt had one n a while. But I know how it goes.
