My 17 Yr Old Relative Is Going Into The Hospital For A 3day EEG. What Advice Can You Share For Making Her Feel Comfortable Mentally/physical
What can she bring or not bring?
I had to do this for a week during lockdown so I couldn’t have any visitors. I found it passed very quickly as the nurses were in and out all the time. I downloaded some films on my laptop and treated it like a holiday - how often do you get told to stay in bed all week and get three course meals! The best part was when I went to the toilet and when I came back someone was in my bed, they had gotten lost! That was the joke of the week. She will be fine and I wish her the best.
When I had my inpatient EEG, I would always bring active things for myself. Things like, Reading and puzzle books, playing cards, IPad or Computer and video game devices . I would also bring things to munch . Things like , chips, Little Debbie’s or Hostess, mixed nuts and ect. I have even brought personal things I liked to drink.
She can take a house coat, some hospitals will let you take pajamas but they have be pajamas that button up some hospitals want you wear the hospitals gowns though, take puzzles or stuff she can do to keep mind occupied, be prepared to use acetone to remove glue from hair they they have medical acetone and have wash hair alot of times get all the glue out. In my prayers 🙏 that everything turns out good. If goe into seizure they will give medication to help pull out of seizures. Wishing and praying 🙏 for my best. Oh an can take house slippers socks they want you wear the hospital socks. Be prepared for strove lights and be taken off medications in testing they need to be able trigger seizures so they know every kind having the frequency amount duration of each seizures. 🙏
Bring reading material and games like sudoku and crossword. Be prepared to stay in bed most of the time. Look for activities that produce seizures. For me, that was getting only two hours sleep, riding a stationary bike for 15 minutes then hyperventilating for five. It's rough but worth it.
Even Though I Don't Like Having A EEG I've Not Had One For 25years,
