Is It Possible For My Newly Diagnosed 12 Y/o Son To Outgrow Epilepsy?
It depends on the original diagnosis. Some forms you just can't outgrow not matter when they a diagnosed but some are basically childhood forms and can be outgrown.
Thank you all for your feedback!
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I tell people that no matter how long you’ve gone without a seizure, it’s always good to tell the doctors about your seizures because when I was still seeing my Pediatric Neurologist, I had gone 8 to 10 years without a seizure & he thought maybe I had grown out of my seizures & so he slowly took me off all my meds. Then I saw a Urologist for an overactive bladder & he put me on a pill called Elavil & while on that pill I had my first seizure in 8 to 10 years & I’ve been back on meds ever since. Since I had gone so long without a seizure & it didn’t occur till I was on the Elavil, I wondered if the Elavil could’ve had something to do with that particular seizure & so I looked at the side effects & sure enough it had a side effect of seizures & I don’t know for sure but since I had gone so long without a seizure, I wonder if it was the Elavil that had something to do with that particular seizure. My Mom & I were so sure we had told that Urologist about my seizures. Around 2015 I had gone 2 years without a seizure but now I have several seizures a year. So once you begin having seizures there’s always that chance they can return even after going years without them. Your friend in Texas, Becky
I think every case would be different.

I’ve had seizures ever since I was a child. I was always told that I could outgrow my seizures. Unfortunately, I never did.
