An aura can be seen on an eeg just like doctors see seizure activity on my RNS when I have an aura.

I have wondered this too and asked my dr recently. Her answer was that the goal is to have nothing that can be seen on an eeg. And unfortunately the aura is picked up as eleptiform activity. But I am still new to epilepsy so still learning. I count the aura on my seizure calendar, but I don’t stop my normal activities such as driving, like I used to. Because I have not had the aura progress for over a year since starting a new med. I will try to not drive for like a week in case I have a cluster, but for me that has not happened in over a year and my new med seems to really have them under control. I also know from my own experience that the auras do cause damage (at least I think so) and will eventually progress into worse seizures. I had them for years and didn’t know what it was. It kept getting worse. So you really don’t want them happening, even though they may seem mild.

The magnet highlights the spot where I have a seizure/aura. My RNS records my brain activity 24/7 so that’s a lot. To make my seizures stand out for my doctors to see we’ll touch my head, where the RNS is located, with a magnet. Doctors will sometimes find seizure activity at those spots.

Aura are counted as a seizure, just much milder. For most it’s like an alert or warning, that a bigger seizure maybe coming.

I agree with chickenwhisperer, an auora is still a seizure. You are only seizure free if you’re not getting those weird uncomfortable dejavu feelings. I used to get alot of different seizures like grandmals and others. I thought these auroa feelings was just a dejavu feeling until i told my doctor and she says that is not just a “warning”, It is a full seizure that i am expressing.
