A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My mom was diagnosed with focal unaware seizures presumably left temporal onset ..and I want know if lapses of judgement can be seizure related or if Alzheimers or dementia might be setting in.

My mom had a major lapse of judgement today. Today despite me warning her not to, she decided to open the door for a total stranger without questioning him.

My mom and I don't usually open the door for anyone unless they call themselves or other family members call and inform us of someone coming that… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member no human’s judgement is perfect, even a person living without medical challenges or minor medical challenges.

I understand your concern for your family member, at same time I hope you also try to look at your mom’s perspective, overhovering a person with a disability, from personal experience just made me feel lack of life within me. Look at the fact that when she answered the door it was a person needed; see that as good judgement; putting a chart of times she made good judgement before the five strikes your out.
I experienced my parents not seeing me anywhere but living with them the rest of my life, I needed support to quality of life with my disability not only defined by my disability in ever move I made.
If you have access to electronics, what about a camera that you can check and in exchange allow your mom space and demonstrate on dignity and see her positive efforts rather than focus on what if, see like last time she judged properly and that is building support that helps your mom

My dad has alzhemers and lapses of judgement are a daily thing for him. Seizures do effect our memorys so if she is getting older it is a definite possibility. I am glad for you that it was not a bad person.
