What Exactly Is Awareness During A Seizure?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So is awareness during a seizure mean you can still respond and talk during one or does it mean your aware of your actions but can hear what's going on around you but can't engage or interact with anyone .

You can speak, holler, and move, just unaware. When I come me out, people tell me how I act and what I said.

Awareness for me during a seizure is being conscious of everything going on around me, except I cannot put thoughts together, therefore, I cannot talk.

When I have my small seizures I’m aware of what’s going On and can remember it all for days on ends.

One time I dug my nails into someone who went to turn off my car. My car was parked and hand brake on but my foot was on the accelerator I was fully UNAWARE . But I was FULLY AWARE a stranger tried to turn my car off reaching for the keys but I thought he was trying to steal my car .
I haven’t driven for years now and sold my car due to this , it scares the crap out of me

This exactly what I do during my seizures I am aware what is happening but unable talk or if I do trying to respond I am told I make weird hummiing noise. After the seizure is over. I can tell you almost everything that happen during my surrounding EMT’s doing their part and during the seizure itself. I can tell you every single detail of an auto accident I had two years ago. I even got a chance to explain the details to the state troopers the hospital Dr’s they all were creeped out by what I knew

My seizures are now called Impaired Awareness rather than Absence.

A minor seizure when they happened I would stop talking for a bit and stare. I might wake up and continue the conversation as if nothing happened. I have a horrible sense of direction anyway, but with a large one I could be extremely confused. I need to urinate. That is a form of stress, I guess.

I could need to sleep in order to recover, sometimes as long as 6 hours or so. Lack of good sleep is a trigger for me.
