Taking Ativan
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone take Ativan? Do any of you have nervous feelings in arms and legs? Am taking Lamictal XR and Primidone at the present. If you are on Ativan, any side effects?

I agree with ProudTx use your Patient Portal if you have one.
Click on MESSAGES ( I think all patient portals are similar)

HELLO AGAIN "VICKIE" I think I like that a bit more than Curly 😊
I'm sorry you're having anxiety problems. I've had big issues with for over a year. I'm doing better on Buspar/Buspirone and the Lamotrigine that I take for seizures. It's a mood stabilizer/ anxiety reliever. The combination does have some side effects.
Good to connect again Vickie!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , In June 2021 I had a really bad anxiety attack at a restaurant & we didn’t know what was going on & I contacted our local Epilepsy Foundation’s Social Services director because it was 5pm & my Neurologist’s office wasn’t answering. So we went to the hospital & they believed it was a really bad anxiety attack & my Neurologist later agreed. The hospital gave me Ativan for the anxiety attack & it helped calm me down but would make me tired when I took it. I had a few more small anxiety attacks for the next few days & took the Ativan each time & it helped to calm me down but it just made me tired but it sure helped. I still have some in the event that something like that ever happens again. So it’s not a pill I take regularly & I probably haven’t taken it since 2021 being that I only took it for those anxiety attacks. I hope it works for you. Your friend in Texas, Becky

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , If there’s ever anything you miss telling your doctor then e-mail them. Different doctors around our area have what’s called a Patient Portal, where you can leave your doctor a message & they usually get back with you. I think when I first told my Neurologist about taking that Ativan for those anxiety attacks, she was oh Ativan is for seizures, not anxiety attacks. But it sure helped me. If you’re not happy with your Neurologist then you could look for another. You’d check to see who takes your insurance & then go to Google & read reviews about the doctors you might be interested in going to. I don’t know anything about mixing seizure meds & so I can’t give you an explanation there. If it turns out that you’re not comfortable with taking the Ativan, like if it makes you to tired, etc., then let your doctor know. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

Thanks for the website. I hate changing meds and very scared if they suggest it. My neuro is beginning to not take time with patients!

They give me IV Ativan at the er to stop my seizures when I'm having a rough night. Klonopin also might work in a pinch. Just something to calm the nerves down.
