If You Stay Away From Triggers, Do You Need Meds?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

If epilepsy is seizures with no known cause. If you know your triggers, do you need drugs? Do you really have epilepsy? Birth control, edamame, and topical estrogen cause my "episodes." Can't I just stay away from them?

I try and try to stay away from triggers but find that impossible. And meds too. So I came to grips a long time ago take my meds or seizure to death. Meds are better than death too me.

My epilepsy came from a TBI I got in a car accident when i was 11. I have tried to not take medication hoping they would stop or only happen occasionally. But for me I have to have it or I will have seizures everyday

Like Francis2 said “tons of triggers”, you just cant ever run away from random triggers that will kick your butt. No one likes meds and just everyone, i too, tried to stay away from those medications that i just hate. I’m pretty sure all the doctors are probably tired of us for not accepting what they give us cause we hate their side effects.
Big triggers are stress, anxiety, depression n many more mental related. Sometimes when i get too excited or happy during something, i need to slow down or else that will trigger a seizure. And also, for me, a day or couple days before my mentrual cycle, i will always get a seizure.

I don't know when I've had seizures sometimes unless someone else tells me or there is obvious signs.

I just kinda zone out, but aware enough to drive home on the freeway. Everyone says it is not possible to drive during a seizure, but I have driven home 2 of the three times, which is one reason I do not believe they are seizures.
