Have Anyone Else Loss A Job Or Had To Stop Going To School Because Of Your Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know seizures can change life but how are we still supposed to go on in life when alot of people don't hire people with health problems. So college's are the same way? Why

I hear ya. My husband and I got a divorce a little over 10 years ago when my seizures started. I lost my job and driving abilities and that made my life horrible. I had a very bad drinking problem and got that under control 12/1/20 and have been seizure free, unless someone really pisses me off. With that, I've found that I like helping and working with others that are having these problems and Encourage them to hang in there.

I was well employed with epilepsy. Wasn't till six years ago I had to take disability. When everything (other) medical issues built up at once. And a bad divorce. Occurred that I became unemployed. But I have seen and heard a ton of horror stories. I myself now am looking at what am I going to now with my life I'm middle aged. And often now if not in church truly feel lost myself

My answer is YES and I thank the Lord everyday for pulling me aside and choosing Epilepsy for me. I'm 59 and it could be worse for me. My sister is 55 and totally disabled. She's wheel chair bond, have had many surgeries, friends and family wouldn't take her in to keep from going to the nursing home. I thank the LORD because it could have been worse for me.

Hang in there, it's hard for people to understand what we go through daily. On top of this condition I have broken my back 2 times. And you are correct in saying that nobody wants to hire someone with major health problems. Even trying to find work from home jobs is hard when you're memory is affected as well as lack of focus. Don't give up my Friend.

As far as colleges are concerned, they should allow you to attend their school. But when it comes to the job market, businesses are not big on hiring people with epilepsy because we are considered a high-risk and they don't want to take a chance on someone who has seizures. Even if they are controlled. We have to look into jobs working from home.
