Smart Watch Apps Vs. Embrace 2
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all. My son recently started seizing (grand mal) again after 4 years of being seizure free. I’m looking to buy him a seizure alert device but wanted to know if anyone has any experience with them. I’m currently looking at My Medic Watch App which connects to a smartphone or the Embrace 2 Watch. Are there any other options out there? Your insight is much appreciated.

Hi Becky. My son started having absent seizures when he was 7. At age 15 he suffered from his first grand mal (this happened after his father’s funeral. He died from congestive heart failure). He’s 24 now and was seizure free for about 4 years. Unfortunately, my husband passed from Cancer in October 2022 and ever since, my son has started suffering from grand mals again. He mostly seizes during his sleep. During the time he was seizure free, he was on a low dose of Depakote (500/day ~ 1 250 mg pill during the day and one at night) but since the seizures started again, his doctor has increased the dosage to (2000 mg/day ~ two 500 mg in the morning and at night). He also uses CBD. I’m so lost as I’m not sure why they came back. I’m trying to find the difference of what kept him seizure free angels what’s going on now. Thank you for the information. There’s so many devices out there that it gets overwhelming.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Check out the Danny Did Foundation website & look at where you can apply for a grant for a seizure Epilepsy watch or device. Go to www.dannydid.org & click on the 3 lines in the top right corner & then click where it says “Devices” & scroll down a little & you’ll see where it mentions applying for a grant for one of the Epilepsy devices that it shows as you scroll down a little more. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Danny Did Foundation. Read carefully cause I don’t know if you can use the grant on just certain devices or if they allow you to use it on any device you want. Your friend in Texas, Becky

I'll be paying attention to this post. I'd like to know this too. I didn't know there were such a thing.
