My son wants to stop taking his anti-seizure medications that he's been on since he was 13 years old he is now 22 he is an adult so I'm looking for an alternative to this option
It is actually very dangerous to stop ASM cold turkey. I suggest a long conversation with his doctor. Hopefully the doc can ween him off safely. And find a different med if he needs one.
Looking at the dates, this seems to be a very late comment on your question but I thought I would post it anyhow. I agree with what Ant2 wrote but can I add that I don't really understand why your son would have to stop his meds "cold turkey" . If he really is set on discontinuing them without consulting his doctor, can I strongly recommend that he does it very slowly. My epilepsy team have always insisted that any change in meds either types or quantities should be changed in 14 day cycles. For example, if I am increasing or decreasing a quantity, I do it in 14 days slots, little by little but NEVER cold turkey as such as they believe that, in itself, can spark off a seizure! If this post is to too late then I wish him good luck.
As his 22 years old i suggest he already decided what his doing, personally i would like to think he has gathered knowledge on possible complications of stopping cold turkey. Therefore it will most likely be gradually reduced and maybe get some cannabis.
