Hi I Have A Question To Anyone On Lamictal
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve been on 100mg twice a day for seizure control for about 2 years . Has anyone had issues with low blood levels of their Lamictal when they NEVER miss a dose? Also, any side effects from Lamictal? Thanks so much, Shirley

I was on lamictal for about 7 yrs. My last year on it , I started to experience kidney stones when urinating. Most of the time it was minor. One day, it was so severe, I had trouble urinating. Plus felt as if I was severely kicked in my nutsack . It was so bad my wife took me into the ER at the hospital

I have the same side effects, but I didn’t have them when I was just on Lamictal, so I assume it’s the Clobazam.

I have been on Lamictal for years, but it wasn't until it was verified that I am 8# months seizure-free that my neurologist started to reduce the dosage (600 mg to now 450 mg to 300 mg) because it along with Clobazam and Keppra was not stopping seizures, but when Xcopri was added too, I have been seizure free since the end of last April. Now, the adjustment is to try to get rid of the random dizziness or at least the strong levels that caused me to fall (while I was in an Ambulatory EEG, thus confirmed it was not a seizure). So far, it has at least gotten rid of the strong spells of random dizziness. Hopefully, the next cut will reduce the majority of the other random dizziness or even better get ride of it. Either way, the lesser dizziness is no big deal right now while I am in long-term seizure free state.

I too am on Lamictal and have been for over 15 years, and the combination with clobazam in 2013 has controlled the seizures for 10 years (My last grand mal was in fact 10 years ago today). Lamictal, like a lot of AEDs, causes fatigue/drowsiness for a while after I take it, and can cause balance problems/dizziness for some, or sometimes. These two drugs both have those same side effects, so it’s hard for me to tell which one is causing the symptoms. But dizziness and unsteadiness and balance issues, combined with the drowsiness, and all that fatigue causes are the most bothersome.
