How Have You Dealt With Drs Who Don't Believe You Have Epilespy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My PCP and my neuro eye doctor feel that I have epilepsy. However I just saw a doctor who does not believe I have epilepsy and tried to write it off as psychological when I know it is not. They did NOT suggest any realistic treatment. Is there medications for epilepsy stemming from PTSD if it is that hypothetically? Is there a way I could pursue "right to try" for an epilepsy medication to see if it helps her so we could figure out where the episodes are actually coming from? Is it possible for… read more

I’d also point out it’s not clear the link with epilepsy and trauma, wether it’s uncovered more in diagnosis or wether more broadly parental neglect plays a role in developing the pathology.

We also may ruminate more and perceive this pathology through the lens of life experiences without realising it (try some keppra you will learn this fast!)

I’d also check out the link with autism & geschwinds syndrome, there are indeed personality traits perhaps neurosis associated with some, particularly in TLE.

Take care it’s a long journey x

I think besides getting a drs opinion it's a good idea to get on your computer and do your own research too as I do.
Drs are human and can make mistakes.

It's common, I went through "bipolar" "schizophrenia" & various BS, whilst winding up in ambulances & ICU. You'd think common sense would prevail, but no. In my case there was a psychiatrist ignorant of epilepsy interested in "schizophrenia" screwing up the diagnosis. 20 years later I absolutely detest that woman still! egos are involved too when the positive eegs came she would not back down! doctors dont know everything & are flawed liked everyone else. Hang in there a 5 day eeg or 2 should do it.

I get what you are saying about forgiveness, but when you have several people say it to you it gets very frustrating! I honestly feel like no-one takes me seriously! No-one! Idk if it's because I have a little bit of a criminal background because of a man I fell in love with and the things I did for him or what, but I feel as if people aren't giving me the proper care as they could be!!!!!! This is my intuition telling me this!! I can feel this! My records are sealed now and I am a very smart woman, so whatever, but I just feel like no-one hears me when I tell them the symptoms I'm experiencing!
