I still ask myself why me out of all 10 siblings. How am I the only one who is not healthy. My parents are perfectly fine with no health problem. Did I do something wrong or did I hurt myself that I can't remember to be diagnosed with epilepsy.
I'm the same, but only have 2 brothers, yet no one else, from either side of my family has this, not anything else close to it.
My seizures also didn't begin till the summer I turned 17. After being seen by many different neurologist Drs, and been through many different meds, I can never have again, years later, 1 Neuro actually found out what may be why my seizures began. He found a tiny piece of my brain that didn't fully develope when I was a fetus. And over the years, he explained to me, as if it were a dust bunny, it some what grew bigger. Till the time it "exploded", and that's when it began to show and causing my seizures. Then getting worse through out my years.... If ever anyone wants to chat, just let me know.
I know it feels like it sometimes, but this condition is NOT YOUR FAULT! You can happen to have epilepsy in a lot of ways, as you can see on this site, or it could be completely by chance. Please do not blame yourself!! For me it happened because of a random hit to the head, which I certainly didn’t ask for. But it happened, and I had to change course in life.
I’m still learning every day. The first thing I had to learn, though, is it’s OK to feel the way you and I do, but we need to keep moving forward, because if we stop, it’s much harder to get started again. I wish you the very best for the holidays, and that you stay healthy and seizure safe this holiday season… K.
Hi StephanieSmith2 ! Sorry this has happened to you in life. We all have different stories, some worse and some not so worse. But many with an illness like epilepsy can have a harder life than a person that is in good health. I have epilepsy myself, and seen some tough times in life. My faith in God has always got me through all the hard times. Best wishes for your future!
I have 2 causes of epilepsy. The #1 cause is a lack of oxygen at birth when the umbilical cord tied around my neck and I inhaled poo. The other possibility is smacking my head to where I was unconscious just before I turned 2 years old.
It can be caused many ways
