Any Asvice With Time Difference And Travel
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Im going on a trip soon thats a 17 hr time difference ahead of where i normally live. Ive gone through 2 hr time differences at most. Has anybody gone on far distanced trips? How did that go with the seizures? Was it harder goinng to your travel destinatiom or bacck home after? Any advice to hopefully help make if slightly easier with managing the seizures?

I have travelled to Europe from NY, that’s a 6 hour difference; 17 hours is a whole other story.

The advice I would give is to adjust your meds according to your usual time intervals, and not just according to the time on the clock. Others are right when they suggest asking your pharmacist, and they may suggest starting to adjust while you’re still at home, maybe by an hour or two, starting a few days before you leave. But first thing I’d do is talk to my pharmacist (it also depends upon whether you take your meds 2, 3, or 4 times a day, so they’d know best)

I wish you luck, stay safe, and have a wonderful trip!!

I used My watch to take Meds. Kept it set where I was from. Went to Alaska for a week. Still took My Meds eastern standard time.

Some of these answers are for short time differences. 17 hours is a lot! Best advice: Ask your pharmacist! They can tell you which meds have a 24 release and which are 12 hour, etc.

If you are going for a long period of time, you can even adjust slowly before you leave by adjusting the timing of when you take them by 15 minutes increments so you are aligned for when you get there. Check with your pharmacist the best way to do it depending on what meds you are on.

Some meds also come with heavy side effects, so they should help you navigate that. (I have one I take only when I’m home and ready for bed. I wouldn’t want to end up taking that one during the day.)

I went on many long-distance trips, and I find that adjusting my body clock to the time of the place that I'm visiting usually helps.

I would go by there time as I would keep the time we have the whole time as myself wont take that chance as you can still leave your time on ph so good luck if you change it
