A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi my name is kimmie. I am 45. The only one in my family with epilepsy is my cousin. I didn't have any problems until few years ago. When i was 22 i was in a Motorcycle wreck with no helmet. My head is what broke my fall doing 60. We hit a northern deer. I have memory problems till this day. About 4 years ago my long term boyfriend of 17 years cheated on me. Kim614, my seizures didn’t actually “appear” until 6 years after my accident. About 70% of brain injury survivors will experience at least one seizure in their lifetime, and rarely just the one. So the gap happens a lot. It just depends on the trigger. Stress might be one of yours—it is for almost half of people with epilepsy—and for me, too. So you are NOT ALONE in this! I hope you have a very good, seizure free weekend…

It sounds like you ARE having a lot of different SEIZURES !! At the time of your accident, did the doctors not tell you that these could happen? If they didn’t, they should have! My seizures (and there are many types) are related to hitting my head really hard, too, so that I was in a coma for a week. So, looks like you came to the right place to find info about them. And unfortunately people rarely have only one, and epilepsy is a lifelong problem we deal with. I hope that answer helps you, and have a safe and seizure free evening…

If your seizures have been diagnosed by a neurologist and he/she thinks your seizures are caused by stress and your emotional health you may have what are called Psychogenic Seizures. Ask your neurologist about it...

Do you have a neurologist treating you?

Question 1. Everyone is different. We all may experience similarities but also experience different seizure effects. I wake with very bad balance.

2. That sounds similar to a Myoclonic seizure, but not 100% sure. There are many people who experience this. Stress is a big part and trigger to Epilepsy seizures.

3. Some people may experience head shakes when seizuring.

4. Many people have seizures while conscious.

5 not all seizures are trigger from Epilepsy. Strobe lights , Low Blood Sodium, head trauma and bleeding in the brain, abnormalities of blood vessel to the brain, autoamune disorder, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain tumor, use of illegal and recreational drugs, alcohol during time of withdrawal and extreme intoxication. Those are all the other thing that can trigger seizures.
