Brain Resection
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone had part of their brain removed to help reduce/stop seizures? Thats what the docs recommen me try now(i already had laser ablation 2 yrs ago) Did you notice any negative changes/side effects post surgery? Good outcomes? What can i expect?

Yes ! I had A portion of my left temporal lobe removed. After my surgery my left side of my brain Felt like I was pushing on Jell-O gelatin. When it finally became solid, it became a little sensitive.

Overall the surgery was worth it. I still have seizures, but they are no longer severe

It’s different for everyone. It didn’t work for my ex-fiancé . So I would recommend and RNS or a VNS . I have a VNS

I once had a VNS too and it did nothing for me so I had a second surgery getting it removed. I now do have an RNS.

I've had it done back in 1996. It's affected my hearing eyesight and short term memory. I still have seizures but their nothing like they were before the surgery. I'm now considering trying the rns surgery

I’ve had 2. One in 2011, i was 12, and one in 2016, i was 15. My seizures originate in my hippocampus, where memories are stored. So just slight problems with that. They also said that my language adjusted itself to be controlled all from the right hemisphere rather than both. It didnt stop the seizures though, and i only have auras. I jad a vns implanted in 2018 and it doesnt work for me. Ask about the rns, ive heard theyre offering that before resections now. They wont allow me to get it because of my resections.
