I’ve had Epilepsy all my life and for what I know , I’ve had up to 8 EEG’s at my Neurologist clinics and inpatient EEG’s. I had no trouble showing that I had seizures.

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I’m 43 & have had seizures & Epilepsy since the 2nd grade after hitting my head on the monkey bars but no one knows for sure if I got them from that, my Dad or both. My Dad had bad grand mal seizures & so his were much worse than mine. My seizures aren’t as frequent or severe as some peoples however I don’t always know I’ve had a seizure unless I notice something is odd or someone witnesses it like my Mom or stepdad who I still live at home with. Growing up I had petit mal seizures, now known as absence seizures but now I have partial seizures & nocturnal seizures where I have seizures in my sleep. Most but not all of my seizures occur in my sleep. In November 2019 I had a 5 day in hospital video EEG & though I never had any seizures, my Neurologist said that while I slept the EEG showed mostly Focalized seizure activity but some Generalized seizure activity. I think other regular EEGs didn’t show a lot but of course I don’t remember anything about the ones I had as a kid. Your friend in Texas, Becky

My EEG's always show seizure activity, even though I don't show any outward sign of a seizure. It's kind of weird.

Over the last 40 years I haven't had a single eeg that didn't have seizure activity on it. I have an active brain. Before that it was occasional some did some didn't. That was when I was growing up. The stupid thing is back then I was diagnosed with petite mal at age 5 and they said I would out grow it by 12 yrs old. So at 12 they took me off the meds without even doing an eeg saying you've outgrown childhood epilepsy. Of course they were wrong and I never said anything to my parents since they were so relieved they didn't have to mess with getting meds or taking me for eegs or doctor visits. My parents were not really involved in my life. I joined a nieghborhood softball team in 3rd grade and played they never saw me play. Luckily the coach had a glove for me. When I was 12 I played hockey on a girls team in the community center across from my house, they never saw me play. I spent my entire childhood running wild on a bike, rollerskates, sled and figure skates in the winter. I am lucky I never got hurt and had a seizure. After they took me off the meds I took up downhill skiing. I figure I must of had a guardian angel watching over me. I knew I was still having those seizures. But I played sports in school, loved track and field and volleyball were my favorites. I made it to age 25 before my seizures added grand mals. Luckily at that point I already had my kids. My mominlaw was a big help. If you picture the perfect grandma, that was her. I loved her so much. My kids are in there 40s now and they still remember when grandma did .... yup I married into the perfect family! 🥰
