Me and my partner are wanting to try for a baby but im a bit apprehensive as I don't want my baby to have epilepsy. I know it can be genetic but I am the first person (we know about) to have epilepsy in my family and doctors don't know how I got it. I would just like to know the odds because I dont think I would be able to watch my baby have sezuires seeing how scared I make my mum when it happens to me.
I'm 64 I've got 3 grown up children who haven't any problems.( Apparently I had a first cousin who had major seizures in her teens which stopped when she got pregnant,( it was still very taboo back in the day)
A male with Epilepsy has a 1.0% - 3.6% chance of his offspring getting Epilepsy.
The female with epilepsy has a 2.9% - 8.7% chance of her offspring getting Epilepsy.
I myself have epilepsy and a father of 2 daughters, without Epilepsy
if seizures are mother to you and your mate to kid then it is above 80%. if seizures are just mother to you to kid then it's less than 50%. if you have seizures at birth, its less than 30%. if a seizure is cause after birth. less than 1%.
I have 3 kids,no problems (my kids are 23,16,15).nobody else in my family has epilepsy, was told that I got it because I had viral encephalitis
I have epilepsy, I have 4kids and had no problems during pregnancy, so far my kids are good. Iām also first in the family with epilepsy.
