Woman: How Does Your Menstrual Cycle Impact Your Seizure Activity?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Woman: how does your menstrual cycle impact your seizure activity? In my 20s and 30s I was super regular. I just hit 40 and I'm all over the board and had two seizures back to back in the same day. Seems too coincidental.

Most definitely hormone levels trigger seizures. Just before and after my menstrual cycle I can have 3 or more seizures back to back. Even with taking my medicine.

My seizures are mainly caused by hormones. They are called cateminial seizures. They happen in a pattern of every two months.

Here's something I found. Not sure if it is helpful...http://www.epilepsy.com/learn/triggers-seizures...

Yes, it is hormonal...cateminial. I am 33 and currently take continuous Birth control rather than take the sugar pills...that has helped a bit. I guess I'll have to deal with what I'm going to do if I decide to have children.

If anything it makes it a huge trigger. They may happen even if I've taken my meds and they may become more severe. It doesn't help that side affects of menstrual cycles are depression and mood swings, which for me and maybe some of you as well can trigger them.
