Left Temporal Lobe Surgery

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Newbury, UK

I've been through all tests for surgery to my left hippocampus but they're worried about the right side and future potential for amnesia.

Has anyone had this surgery?
How has your memory been after?
Would you say your life has improved?
If you haven't, what helped you make the decision?

I'm 27 so not necessarily young but the thought of losing my memory is extremely scary.

I've had my left temporal lobe done too. I was about 23 yrs of age when I had my surgery . I'm now 42. My seizures still aren't 100% controlled, but the frequency of of them are better. They to be severe. Now they are moderate to mild. My memory is probably 1-2 % better. But it is a little hard to tell with AED meds side effects.

The biggest concern on my left temporal lobe , was my speech , language, and memory center. They want to make sure that they didn't go near that area.
