Exercising With Epilepsy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does epilepsy effect the way you exercise? How you exercise? The exercises you do? Where you exercise?

Extreme stress always seems to bring on my seizure's, with that being said it seems I get a warning feeling in my body. Also I would go to the gym after I ate and took my Medicine. As far as swimming, I know the doctor says to not go swimming or for that matter not to bath alone, but I think those are general rules for every patient with epilepsy. You need to tailor that to your own specific situation, are your seizure's controlled?? do you take meds?? do you have any other health conditions???? etc, if in doubt ask your doctor

When i was in my 20 &early 30 i would do all kind of home video floor exercises like butt squats, leg lifts sit-ups etc... then when i got into my late 30 early 40 my seiz started to effect my muscles so i quit exercising and only do stretches now. The tredmill always triggered my seizures.

I say start out with low endurance exercises, once your use to that ,then gradually increase the endurance activity. When you get use to the increase you endurance a little more. When you start noticing seizures you'll know what your body can tolerate.
