Has Any One Heard Of Melatonin Sleep Aid Casing Seizures In Children?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I usually give my child 5 mg tab of melatonin but I have stopped because someone mentioned to me that melatonin can cause seizures. We see the sleep specialist in August.

I don't know about kids with epilepsy. But I do use it with my two girls. They don't have epilepsy either.

You may want to talk to your child's Dr.

Really? Because my 20 year old had sleep issues a couple of years ago and that's what my GP gave him..... another daughter of mine has trouble sleeping and I was thinking of giving it to her?

Because of its effects on other hormones, melatonin might interfere with development during adolescence.

I don't know if it has effect on people with epilepsy. But I also use it on my kids . They don't have Epilepsy. And I pray that that don't get it.

They say that it can affect growth in children and advise against giving it to kids.
