Questions About 3 Day EEG At Home
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My first EEG came back abnormal. I get seizures daily and now I am taking the 3 day EEG at home. I want to make sure I don't do anything that would give wrong results. Can medication, drinking coffee or moving head cause it to be abnormal? Can the EEG not show my seizure? I want to make sure that this test will show what is happening. Can the test be normal even though the seizures are happenings? I am having so much anxiety about this

I am sorry to hear that you are falling and feeling bad. I understand your concerns about the Dr. You have seen this Dr. only once, I think it would be good to wait, and she what she has to say. If it does not work it is always good idea to have a second opinion. Like you said you are feeling a bit anxious. I know the feeling when everything seems uncertain. I think many us have been there. I have not tried Marijuana but I believe it will not work for the type of epilepsy that I have, and it might affect my work performance. Marijuana is not for everyone, and I think you should not take it without doing your research and by understanding what your condition is and what are the results of the EEG. I have epilepsy for 30 years now, and I have gone from several phases. At first when I was diagnose, (I was young) I thought it is nothing, I am not going to take the medication because of the side effects that they usually have. As you can imagine, It did not work well. Then I tried to find alternative therapies, (Marijuana was not considered at that time). I did not work well either. The only think that I am still doing is take vitamin B3 and omega 3. Then, I finally did more research about what was going on with me. I have changed Drs. and medications. I finally accepted what I have and try the best way to work with it. There are still moments when I feel anxious specially in work related situations, I tried to bread. Right now, I am thinking in meditation as a possible aide agaist anxiety. Remember that anxiety can triger seizures also. I hope you find the answer that you are hoping to have. Think that are many of us out there, we the same problems, and we can understand how you feel.

Wow. Three day eeg at home? I've only had eegs at my neuro office. I do know when I've had a sleep deprivation one I wasn't supposed to have caffeine if I remember. Were there instructions given to you? You can have an abnormal eeg and not have seizures but that is s not too common. You can also have anormal eeg and still have seizures. Mine are abnormal. Very wacky. I wasn't having seizures during eeg. The eeg will tell you what your brain waves are doing and if they are misfiring. Good luck.

Does anyone do support groups where they live? I am having a lot of issues at home, because of my health. Dr's are not helping either. I would love to be around others that understand and possibly can help me. Maybe help answer questions that I am confused about. My husband reads the Internet and comes up with his conclusions. I'm truly sad, confused and tired. I feel so alone. I wasn't sure if it is possible to find some others that I can talk with in person? Thank you for listening. This sight has been wonderful!
Sincerely,
PK

Thank you! I truly appreciate your wonderful words. I have heard so many things about the longer EEG test. People have the seizures and it still came back abnormal. I feel like I need to prove it. Falling and shaking is not something I find fun or want to do for my days. I don't leave the house much. It has become issues with my husband. On top of it I have serous back problems. Falling hurts even more. I'm scared that the Dr only believes the test. If that happens do I find a new Dr? This Dr. is new. I have seen her once. My husband wants to have me try Marajuana without the THC to see if that will help. Has anyone done that?
