I've had both brain Sugery and VNS implant. The brain surgery helped decrease my seizure frequency down. They are still unpredictable and not 100% controlled with meds, but they are not as violent as they use to be..

The VNS Implant didn't work so well for me

I had a Parietal Lobectomy. I had a fantastic surgeon and a great medical team that did a complete analysis of where my seizures were originating. Unfortunately for me it was found that they were coming from several areas of my brain. They eventually extracted a 2"x 2" x 2" area of my parietal lobe. They couldn't extract the whole area that was need because it would have interfered with my motor function causing partial paralysis. After the surgery I lost some function on my left side however with rehabilitation it returned for the most part. My seizure activity was reduced from 3 Tonic Clonic seizures every two days to about one every 3 to 4 weeks. I unfortunately developed several infections which brought me back to where I started.
I would without question do the surgery again and suggest it to others if you trust your surgical team and if they provide excellent post surgery care. It was explained to me that if you have had a long history of seizures there will be a run down period where the seizures decrease over a longer period of time after the surgery. I experienced this and if I did not run into the complications I have no doubt that my seizures would have been reduced even further.

I hope this helps and sorry for the long post.
