Has Anyone Ever Dealt With Physical Aggression And Epilepsy?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Cambridge, MN

My son this past month has been having verbal behavioral outbursts and physical aggression towards my husband and I. After he calms down he will say "what". Is this another complication of Epilepsy or from his Impulse disorder? This is so hard and I do not know how to help him.

Yes. I had those outbursts in my older years. There can be times they are a part of the seizure & other times they can be seperate where he knows he's doing it. (I would just take it out on my mother, and she'd wonder if there was anything that could be done.) Don't be afraid to call your neuro. They always need to know their behaviors and anything that they can do to help.

Epilepsy and a mood disorder is not a good combo so it could be a little bit of both and the meds could push it further depending on the type of meds he is on. To me it sounds like he is having a black out seizure but with his mood disorder in effect his anger takes over during his blackouts.

It depends on what medications he is on. I know that Keppra can cause agitation which can lead to this.
