I think it's dif per person, I have had my condition for 51 yrs and my mom had also, she had for however long she had, but then quit taking her meds and then her epilepsy went away and no longer had, there I think maybe have happened with other people out there, but I wouldn't suggest that unless getting medical advice from your doctor and such, just letting you know what I had seen my mom have happen to her, my opinion,
There are a small Percentage of people who are ale to control their seizures 100%.
There is never a full guarantee that our seizures will be controlled by meds. Same goes with the different alternative procedures , like the brain surgery, VNS (vagus nerve simulator ), RNS ( responsive neurostimulator ) and DBS ( deep brain stimulator ) .
I’ve done three of the four alternative Procedures. The brain surgery help lower my seizures frequency, from severe To mild and moderate seizures.
I tried the VNS, but no success. In 2022, I had the DBS implant done . I still have it and it’s reduced my seizures over half. So I still do have seizures. I just don’t have as many as I use to.
As a mom that takes care of my son that has epilepsy that gives me hope. He is scheduled to have brain surgery soon . I'm just so proud of him because he's going to graduate High school.
Each of us experiences this differently. For some, the medicine is enough. For some, they need to have an implant to control the seizures, and then there are people like me. I had brain surgery. This August is my 10th anniversary, and I have been seizure-free ever since! I am walking proof that it can happen. Before the surgery was a very long journey. I was rediagnosed at age 19, and the surgery did not come till 30! It was a long and tiring journey, but I did not give up. Last spring, I graduated with my bachelor's degree, and this fall, I am going on to get my master's degree now that I have found a college that is ready for me. You can do this! Don't give up! Prove them all wrong. That makes it more fun!!
