I needed them in college and unfortunately the ones they gave me did not help. They told me all they could give me was a note taker and extra time on tests. But that was not enough for me personally… read more

Did Epilepsy (for Those Of You Who Were Diagnosed Young) Hamper Your Chances To Graduate High School? Or To Go On To College?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

In high school (1980 - 1984), I had some issues, but I was still very intelligent (though did not know until 2021 that I was suffering from brain damage from the return of my Epilepsy in 1980 to when I was finally diagnosed in treated in 1997 --- this only being possible because research was published in 1995 that proved that Epileptic Partial Seizures existed. Thus some of the things that so many more older epileptics than me were being judged for before 1995 -- such as daydreaming, bad… read more

Does Anyone Get Work Accommodations?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm applying for work accommodations due to my work not wanting to give me off for neurology and psychiatric appointments and am trying to think if there are any other ones that would be worth asking for because I don't want to have to go through this twice. Does anyone else get work accommodations for their epilepsy if so what did you ask for?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone, I want to study Optometry at university but I am worried they will reject my application because I suffer from epilepsy or I won't be allowed to practice once qualified because of the disability. Has anyone been in a similar situation or can give me some reassurance? Thanks!

Don't tell anyone other than your closest friend(s) and the school nurse or medical team. Let the seizure itself tell others of the matter. It really will impact the dating life if the girls find… read more

How Do I Remember Things From Class?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I'm going back to college. I start on August 11th. Here's my deal though. I've been in and out of college since I graduated in 2009 because of Epilepsy problems. I've gone to college three other times already. Also for three different things. Should have stayed with the same track I know but I'm indecisive and I get bored easily. First time I was at the community college, I was there for my AA but I had just found out that I had Epilepsy. My GPA started dropping near the end of a year and a… read more

Do Professors Know About Epilepsy Or Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was curious If a professor would be able to tell if a student were having a seizure in her class, even if the student didn't tell this professor that she had epilepsy, seizures and was photosensitive? I ask because, yesterday my professor was acting very weird towards me. Maybe I am being a bit paranoid but, I just thought it was very odd in how she was acting. Here are two examples; Yesterday, when we went to watch two video clips she had one set of lights on and one set off. During the… read more

Calling All Teachers
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I went to college for Music Education from 2012-2015 and had to leave due to having so many seizures effecting my grades (missing a lot of class due to recover) but in 2021 I got a VNS surgery that reduced seizures from 1-2 a week, to 1 every 2-3 months. So I'm reapplying and I really want to know, how many of those with epilepsy went to college and became teachers, and how did/do managed to achieve and continue to be that. Because I know for sure the professors (just like all my job interviews… read more

I graduated in the mid 1990's. I taught elementary for 2-3 years. The stress didn't work with my epilepsy. However I was able to teach preschool for 16 years as it was a less stressful job.
