What Treatment For Epilepsy? I've Been On 6 Different Meds.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Every couple of years I have seizures then my Dr wants to try something new or ups the dosage. The meds I'm on now are making me dizzy and off balance

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I have been on too many meds to count. I was on phenobarbital, volume, Dilantin, Depakote, Topamax, and vimpat just to name a few. My son is on Trileptal, Keppra, Onfi, Depakote (two, 250 mg, and… read more

How To Improve Your Memory Recall?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

In the case of most of us (unless those who suffered brain damage that specifically damage to long-term memory in the inner brain with the hippocampus and memory central command) or are suffering from dementia (easier to get a test now that can show if you have early stages or soon will have do to recent research published earlier this year), then all of your memories (nothing that occurs during a seizure except those seizures like the Simple Partial Seizures that you are completely aware… read more

When You Were Told That Medication To Assist You, Did You Choose Surgery Or Alternative Solutions? How Well Did It Work For You?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have heard in the past from several friends who have tried many others including surgery, implants or non-medication alternative methods. However, I think it would help if those of you who have to share your experience with those are now at the point where they have been told that medication will never allow them to reach a long-term seizure free state.

If Q + A section was better organized, then I would not have to ask this question, but we have a support site, so we have to do what we can… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Everyone gets nervous. Usually what helps is if you talk to your epileptologist/surgeon. From the surgeon, I learned there was a better chance of dying from a car accident… read more

Thinking About Having VNS Implant. Is It Worth It?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have both simple and complex partial seizures. The complex partials are under control with meds but I have break thru simple partials. No loss of awareness but my new neurologist claims that I shouldn't drive because he thinks since I'm still having simples, I could possibly have a complex too. His thinking...not mine. He has suddenly told me not to drive, even though I'm experiencing less seizures than I've ever had (30+ years).

In order to keep my freedom, I'm wandering how successful… read more

Can You Have Seizures At Night And That Would Make You Severe Fatigue?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have had epilepsy since I was 11 and I'm 34. As of now lately for the past couple of months I have been drained exhausted and I just read an article that says you can have seizures at night? Does anybody have any answers or what they do? Or does this mean my vagal nerve stimulator battery has to be changed?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I have mostly nocturnal seizures also. They happen shortly before I wake up, or sometimes shortly after I get up(that’s when I fall and get hurt). I also am severely fatigued and dehydrated when I… read more

Keppra And Pregnancy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My wife is on higher than recommended daily dose of Keppra, 1875mg in the a.m. and 1500mg in the evening. She is 33 and we discussed more children but I worry about her age along with medication causing birth defects and having to care for a disabled child on my own if anything happens to my wife.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Most data says K hasn't caused both defects. Most AEDs are quite safe. Dr can tell you best to get rid of any worries bout any harm to baby too. Age 33 should not be a problem actually quite young.

Is This A Type Of Seizure?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have the ability somehow to be aware well sometimes partially aware of my surroundings and sometimes able to speak if not mumble jibberish during a spasm... Sometimes I'm able resist spasms but sometimes it creates other issues like prolonging the initial once every 3 months spasms or creates a spasm after the initial spasm of all the ways I tried to move my body during the spasm all at once like a lagged troubleshooting spasm... I've been suffering with this almost all my life and well every… read more
