What Treatment For Epilepsy? I've Been On 6 Different Meds.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Every couple of years I have seizures then my Dr wants to try something new or ups the dosage. The meds I'm on now are making me dizzy and off balance

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Can Someone Put This In Lay Terms, About Life Expectancy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Article: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15371287

"Reduction in life expectancy can be up to 2 years for people with a diagnosis of idiopathic/cryptogenic epilepsy, and the reduction can be up to 10 years in people with symptomatic epilepsy. Reductions in life expectancy are highest at the time of diagnosis and diminish with time. Our model provides broad estimates, but it appears that the higher mortality rates in people with newly diagnosed epilepsy translate into decreased life expectancy."

You can’t really say when you go to heaven. That’s God’s choice so I don’t believe that stuff about life expectancy with seizures

What Are My Options?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I submitted a reasonable accommodation request on 10/18/22 asking that my job give me 12 hours off of work, specifically during the hours of 7pm to 7am, due to the fact that I must wake up at 6am to get my children ready for school. Also to see to it that I may get enough sleep, because the recommended amount of sleep for someone with my disability is 8-10 hours of continuous sleep per night. My boss agreed to accommodate my request for one week only: 10/31-11/05/22, even though I… read more

If Your Seizures Are Under Control, Do Your Side Effects (either From Seizures Or Meds) Come And Go?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

As far as I know, I haven't had a seizure in over a year. It took me 11 months to feel like myself again after the last one. Then I had 3 months of feeling really good. Now all of a sudden the side effects (brain fog, memory, exhaustion, depression, word recall, etc.) are back. I'm trying hard not to feel like I'm backtracking and to view it as all part of the package. For those of you whose seizures are under control, do your side effects come and go?

Marijuana And Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Marijuana can help seizures (not in huge amounts in a safe amount) at least I’ve heard I asked my own neurologist and she said it does but not in crazy amounts I personally smoke weed and I’ve found it does help (when it isn’t super bad) if you do yourself what’s your opinion if you don’t still drop your opinion in the comments

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Nicotine causes them I have to quit which is difficult but I feel like depending on what type of seizures you have depends on how it effects you
