A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Missed Dose
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
My 9 year old missed his levetiracetam this morning. We did not realize it until noon. He takes his medicine twice a day. Every 12 hours. We try to take it every time at the same time. His doses are 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. We have this set due to school and bed time. My question is: Is it safe to skip one dose. My son only had 2 full convulsion seizures. He also has night seizures/terrors when sleeping. His doctor wants to start winging him off his medication after we view his next EEG and… read more

Sleep Requirements
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello! I could not find any answers to this topic. Do you all find that you generally need more sleep than others? I know everyone is different, but I find that I usually need 8+hours of sleep daily. I am very diligent about getting enough sleep as that is one of my main triggers. On the weekends, I can easily sleep for 9+ hours. Is anyone else like this?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I would say yes, I’m the same way in that I need about 8 hours on a regular schedule in order to function normally, and without it I’ve been more prone to seizures. But I purposely plan and keep to… read more

Does Anyone Know How To Find Out What Might Have Triggered A Seizure Who Had. If You Only Had One In Over 40+ Years?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

The only thing that I haven't had to deal with until maybe mid 2000's I found out I have type 2 diabetes. That and the medication made me get dehydrated quite often. I have always had dealt with stress and Sleep deprived because I was hyperactive and insomnia. So I don't think that did it. But aa the years went by and added medication for diabetes I became more prone to dehydration. I couldn't drink enough water to stay hydrated. The day I had my last seizure after all them years I was so… read more

Has Anyone Heard Of Pseudo Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was told I have Grand Mal and other Seizure Disorders one of them called Pseudoseizures . Anyone else ever hear of this? I'm told it's hard to diagnose and often gone undiagnosed or is missed. My family and I was just grasping the Grand Mal Seizures now there's more to try and sort thru?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

I agree especially with MarKC - thanks for reminding me of ' non epileptic seizures' I've also heard of them being called ' pseudoseizures' too
