What Is A Video EEG

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Florida, NY

I was diagnosed over 38 years ago with gran mal seizures. I neurologist that I seen now wants to do a 5 day video EEG to determine what type of seizures I have, is this legitimate?

I had a 5-day VEEG also. I was taken off of all my seizure meds and anxiety and sleep medication. I did the strobe light, sleep deprivation, and OT, that night 3 times I flat-lined. Stopped breathing and my heart stopped beating. And it kept happening, every time I would doze off or fall asleep. So long story short, they had to stop the VEEG, put me back on my meds, and hand me over to Cardiac. The only brain activity they got was when my heart stopped. So yes, I would have to say that it's pretty legitimate.

I had a similar experience. I was placed in the hospital for 5 days and slowly taken off my meds with all sorts of wires attached to my head and hooked up to a monitor. After the five days they told me I has a scar on my left frontal lobe. Probably from either when I was born, doctor screwed up getting me out of my mom’s womb or an accident where I hit my head somehow as a child. That was the end of the conversation, told me I had epilepsy and that I could get surgery done to help but it might do nothing. Didn’t like those odds.

I hope and pray you’re doing well nowadays. The uncertainty of the VEEG is a hard-path to deal with and mostly the unknown.

I had just had a seizure that led to an almost fatal accident. I wanted to see better or total control of seizures so I wanted surgery.
