Lacosamide
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have experience with lacosamide? Does it work? Do they experience serious side effects. My dr wants to put me on it after an ekg. But ive never had to do an ekg before my other seizure meds, when i looked up the side effects they seem a lot more intense than other seizure drugs, and a lot more side effects that are unknown whether considered common or not.

Here are ALL of the potential side effects of Lacosamide:

And if you read all of the potential side effects (go to drugs.com) of any of your medications, there are a lot of side effects that your neurologist does not know or will deny.

And it is on an individual basis on which side effects you as an in individual. However, the most common side effects of any anticonvulsant are:
Common side effects generally include:
Dizziness.
Drowsiness.
Fatigue.
Nausea.
Tremor.
Rash.
Weight gain.
NOTE: The most common side effect is the one that few neurologists and some pharmacists will not tell you about is that every anticonvulsant and some other medications too have a cumulative side effect of hampering memory recall.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Different medications require different testing before making adjustments and to check that it is not affecting our health.
Those like this that can for some people be harmful to the liver must be known.

And I know when my psychiatrist wanted to see if it was safe to increate my antidepressant. He sent me to a tech that did an EKG along with a partial EEG, and there was also the blood test to see how much of it is in my blood stream.

It’s the generic version of Vimpat. Came out in March for the generic version.

Mostly nausea, vomiting and vision issues and diarrhea. That will pass as the drug builds up.. unfortunately there are many of us who are actually allergic to it, so report anything side effect wise to your neuro/doctor right away...don't wait.
