I recently had an appointment with my epileptologist, and she said my seizures are under enough control to get an online/remote job! Still too much of a liability for kinesthetic jobs, especially with using tools and machinery (type of job I'd prefer). But having an online job is better than being bored out of your mind stuck inside all day!
I am curious where to begin? She said I could try working with the Epilepsy Foundation to find a career counselor, but haven't had much luck there. Any of… read more
15 years ago, I would definitely say your state/regional Epilepsy Foundation. Now, if you have a good one, then contact them.
When I wanted to look for a job I would start through my county. I would always start with the rehabilitation worker, who would me find jobs of my interests . There was also a work force center in the same building and I could use the computers to also look for jobs on the different career / job search engines and even look through the WANT Ads in the newspapers, if they still exist.
Sometimes, I was even given a job hunter. So if there were employers in my interest , he/she would go to those employers for a little tour.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I looked on Google & when I typed in “DARS New Jersey” & “DARS Wyoming” as I looked at the website links that came I saw they came up as Vocational Rehabilitation & so you can check those different websites out. As for the DARS in our Texas state, I was right & it merged a few years ago to where our local Workforce Commission took over the responsibilities helping those with disabilities with the duties that our DARS offices had done. Hope this helps. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky
Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I don’t know about where you live but here in Texas we have had a place called DARS which stands for “Department of Assistive & Rehabilitative Services” & this is their mission: “The Central Texas Aging, Disability & Veterans Resource Center through the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) can help people with physical or mental disabilities prepare for, find, or keep a job.”. I thought I had read at one time that they had joined together with our Workforce Commission but today when I looked DARS up on Google it came up but I didn’t read any current updates on them yet. But you might see if something like that is available in your area by going to Google & typing in “DARS in ...,,,” & then put the city & state. They helped me get a new pair of glasses when I was looking for a job cause I didn’t have any insurance. I often met with a lady at our local Workforce Commission for help with my resume. But you might try to see if you have a DARS or something similar in your area. I hope this helps. Your friend in Texas, Becky
