My son is 11 years old and has had epilepsy since he was 18 months old. It is challenging to find groups/activities for him to do where we don't have to worry so much about his seizures and whether or not the staff can handle if he has a seizure. We want him to be like a normal boy, but also have people recognize that he does have medical needs. We've done Ninja/parkour classes but with his seizures not being controlled it was just too risky to stick with. We want him safe but to enjoy life too… read more
I would check with your local Epilepsy Foundation. They have activities programs along with support groups. When I was younger, they had camp programs during the summer and winter .
They may have other activities programs, the
Epilepsy Foundation up here also has a art workshop and probably a few other things. It’s been awhile since I checked.

I started having seizures when I was 10 years old but I continued playing sports all the way to when I was 18. I had several seizures while playing sports. I was still a star though. I would play a whole game and then be told that I had a seizure. I didn’t know that. I still see my baseball coach to this day. He’ll tell me stories of times I had a seizure. They would just pause for a few minutes while my coach came out and stood by me and then I’d be right back to playing. As long as the coach knows he has seizures he will let everybody else know. So don’t let seizures take sports and activities away from your son. I played every sport out there.

I'm glad you're trying to include your son in different activities, he will feel included instead of isolated. Even though I had epilepsy, I played basketball, volleyball, and was in the choir. My medications controlled my seizures, but there were times they didn't. I wasn't kicked out of anything, I just got my seizures back under control and continued on with my life. There are so many activities in school, just make his teachers aware of his condition.
Your son just needs to learn his symptoms before hand. He can play hockey, basketball any sports, of course make sure the coach is aware but treat him no different. Thats the best gift you could give him in my opinion. What I always wanted
