When I tried phenobarbital it really knocked me out , so I stopped it. There are a lot of newer ones, phenobarbital is an old drug, many newer ones. But the patient knows what works and hopefully your physician will listen to you
Look up above 3rd question up from your’s.. another person was also asking about something related to phenobarbital.
I have a message along with others may that will help you some.
The reason I asked the question is because a neurologist I saw quite a few years years ago put me on phenobarbital because I insisted that he do so. Nothing else was working and Pheno worked well for me when I was a child. Since then, I’ve seen two more neurologists and neither of them like or want me on Phenobarbital. But it works the best for me in addition to my DBS. So I want to stay on it. I have an appt with a new neuro in August who is to wean me off of Phenobarbital. I’m going to tell her I want to stay on it and go off the Vimpat and/or Zonisamide instead. They don’t work as well for me; I know, I was on them before I started taking Phenobarbital.
Whe first diagnosed back in 1972 Dilanin & phenobarbital were the only meds for seizure control. Now so many are available for all types of epilepsy. Tried many but no luck so still on both. Just partials now but can depend on them to stave off àny biggies. Phenobarbital by itself would need a high dose to do this by itself which would cause too many bad sides.Thankfully we have better choices to avoid this now.
Phenobarbital is an old medication and there are newer ones that supposed to be better and more effective.
