Has Anyone Else Ever Had Their Brain Make Sounds Like It’s A Crackling Fire Or Smell Like It’s On Fire?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Lately I’ve been having some really strange smells and feelings going on. Every once in awhile it smells and sounds like my brain is on fire. I’m not sure what’s going on with me and I feel safer asking on here than asking anyone else or even telling them

I'm not a doctor or anything close to an expert, but that's not good. The brain actually doesn't have pain recepters, so the fact that you are feeling that, I would go to the ER. Do you have a VNS, RNS, or DBS? It could be malfunctioning, if so.

The people that answered your question about the auras are completely correct. I am on a year and a half since my 1st sz. I have thankfully only had a few gran mal sz that I'm aware of. One very recently, I get a lot of cluster seizures, plain old seizures, night seizures, just when I think I've figured it out, it's some new hell. It's been a real learning process for me. After the first seizure I had, I smelled fire, burning for about 6 to 9 months off and on sometimes it preceded a seizure sometimes not, sometimes I just got the smell. It would vary sometimes as to what smells I get. I used to ask people if it was there, it's so real.
The Drs say that these are seizures in themselves, I'm not so sure but if so,compared to the bad sz I'll take the smells. I have not burnt up yet and they seem to have eased up in the last few months. I now only get them occasionally.
Just make sure that something's not really on fire and keep an eye on when they happen and if you have a seizure afterwards. Keeping track of that stuff is really the best way of figuring out your patterns. Good luck

It sounds to me You are experiencing a form of an Aura. It’s a type of seizure, usually followed by a bigger seizure( but not always ). It’s kinda like a warning sign or a precursor, that a seizure is coming.

The smells could be a sign that you are about to have a seizure.
Call a hospital or one of those emergency out patient centers and ask them.
