I Am Presently On Kepra And Trileptal But Cut Back On It Because Of Depression And Now Dr Wants To Drop Trileptal And Add Lamictal
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I cut back on meds because I couldn't even function I was so exhausted and depressed and used to being very active. Now I'm supposed to go on Lamictal and dread more side effects. The neurology team I'm on will be discussing me this week and because nothing has worked so far on my seizures, they're leaning more on surgery but I'm not. The only thing is I found out in the hospital that I'm having them at night which I had no idea about and scares me as I have no idea how I'll know if I'm ever… read more

Every medication is a shot is a the dark.
Lab rats we are.
With that said I have been on 5 different medication that all had different side effects from sleep, crying constantly, perversion, the worst drug I was ever on.
Slowing of the mind and remembering events,
The 5th medication and my current has worked. With little side effects have been Tonic Clonic seizures free for the past 3yrs. Have had a few myoclonic seizures an a couple of absent seizures but few and far between. In my opinion was not worth telling may wife about them.
The only real side affect with this medication is falling asleep with in the first hour of taking it.
I take it before bed and after I get up in the morning.
In the morning after medication taken I'll take what I call a power nap.
After a half hour I good for the rest of the day.
The current medication is Lamictal 700mg daily.

As you know by now we who suffer are made lab rats for the drug industry.
Don't get me wrong there are both good and bad medications that work in different ways for each person.
Myself over the years was on 5 differnt medication.
Each one had different side affect all poor
I'm on Lamictal now for the past 3yrs and have been seizure free
The only side affect after med is taken I fall asleep. For the most part refreshed knowing this I'll take it before bed.
My morning dose makes me take a guick nap.
Half hour or so.
Then good for the rest of the day.
I can live with drug.
Thou many people can not.
Have a blessed day

Yes, the Kepra wasn’t working or the trileptal but I did have to cut way back on it due to the exhaustion and depression so who knows? It wasn’t working on full dose or half dose. Now the dr wants me to stay on the Kepra and add Lamictal so just started 25 mg yesterday. Same old thing, get used to the exhaustion and gradually go up to 300 mg and hope for no depression and exhaustion that I can’t handle. I’m also hoping no rashes that Lamictal can possibly cause.
Hate meds. To me they are worse than the seizures, it’s just that, as you know, it’s causing damage to the brain.

I started Lamictal yesterday in the morning and was so tired all day I had to take a nap and today taking it before bed. However, I’m only starting on 25 mg and finally going up to 100 mg in a couple of weeks. If anyone has gotten a rash from it let me know, I read some can be bad.
