Life Insurance Claims For Temporary/ Disability In The Workplace
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good evening .

Does anyone who has life insurances, find it nearly impossible to claim Temporary or permanent disability coverage when trying to claim. I have been at home for 6 months without pay from 2 separate insurances. The company Doctor has told me that I cannot work at the place I work at due to my seizures and the machines that I need to work around. I live in South Africa and would love to know what others may be dealing with in similar situations.

Thank you and hope this helps… read more

Apparently, that is the way big companies work to make trillions on those with disabilities. Be stopped? As long as they are getting high profits, they will continue their ways.

As much as life insurances give you the big talk about how they will support you, they will only support you (a person with epilepsy) if you agree to a deal that your claim will be re-evaluated every 6 months. In which case they have ways to increase your premiums after each 6 months. I tried many years ago to get life insurance and a representative was kind enough to explain how it works for me with a disability. If the disability did not happen at work, in some cases they are not responsible for offering Reasonable Accommodations. For me, it turns out that after i signed up for insurance and they got their report on my health from the MIB (Medical Information Bureau), they told me because of my epilepsy, my premiums will increase for now. Turns out while having the policy for 5 years, the insurance company increased my premiums because i was a risk due to i had epilepsy. I canceled the policy after i found out other insurance companies work the same way with those with epilepsy.

Thanks for sharing and WOW!.
So basically we being punished for having a disability that we cannot control. That is so sad on these big companies that takes billions from our pockets, builds massive companies but cannot afford to pay you when in need.

How can this be stopped, there must be a way?
