Any Tips With Extreme Fatigue And Epilepsy? Please
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, i'm Olivia, my parner has epilepsy and has only
recently been diagnosed (we are both 22). He has been
struggling with extreme fatigue and unable to leave the
house most weekends which isn't like him, struggling to
relax and really stressed. Would anyone have any advice
on how to support him or anything that could help? Any
help will be appreciated as we are both new to this so no
answers are wrong! We will trial and error until
something works even if it's a small difference. Thank
you

Sorry to hear about this, its never easy dealing with a new diagnosis. Other than the seizures causing the fatigue, and possibly needing more rest. I found adjusting my diet has helped with my energy and focus levels. ( everyone is different and it may or may not be as effective, for different people. ) for me i found reducing carbs not necissarily removing them completely but lowering the intake amount, and increasing in protein and sodium really helpful for me. Different people use different diets that work best for them, but sometimes our bodies need more of a certaim nutrient or less of something and they react a certain way.

Hi thank you so much for answering ! He is not on any type of medication yet! He is still undergoing some tests (we are from the UK so i’m not sure if our heathcare procedures are different). Also he doesn’t struggle with sleep apart from the past few nights he has been stressed that’s why but other than that he sleeps fine 8 hours every night especially longer the weekends

There are different possibilities.
The meds he’s on can cause exhaustion, and tiredness.
A lack of sleep
seizuring while asleep or awake, cluster seizures and Grand Mal seizures.
May the med dosage is too much.
Is he experiencing any Insomnia?

For starters try to reduce his stress. Also, it would help to know if the medication he is taking has side effects of fatigue, tiredness and maybe drowsiness. Don't forget to write down when is feeling fatigue. Is it before taking his meds or after taking his meds.

Hi, I'm 44 yrs old and I've had epilepsy since I was 8 yrs old. Alot of rest helps and to make sure not to miss any medication dosed. I was taking tegritol but still having seizures and the doctor changed my medication to Keppra 500mg twice a day and I haven't had a seizure since.
