Who Takes Vimpat? Does Your Pharmacy Or Insurance Give You A Hard Time About It?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Trying to get Vimpat is so hard for me. It's on auto refill, but every time I try to refill it, they want Dr's authorization or it's out of stock, idk. But it's always something & I got to be without Vimpat for some time. I'm considering talking to my doctor about taking a cheaper medicine so I can buy it on GoodRX when the insurance gives me a hard time.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I recommend you try going to www.Vimpat.com then go to the grey box in the top right corner & click on that & then click where it says “Save on Vimpat” & click on the link that comes up. Then scroll down a little bit & you’ll see something about applying for their Patient Assistance Program. Try filling out that & see if they’ll approve you & help you. I started Vimpat in November 2019 & back then even though I had insurance it still would’ve cost around $600 dollars or so. I applied for this & get my Vimpat for free. You’ll probably have to provide certain information like your financial stuff but give it a try. Also, you could ask your local Epilepsy Foundation. I’m not working right now & so I don’t have any insurance & have a disability hearing with a Judge in March 2022 & so my local Epilepsy Foundation is helping me get my Depakote & I still continue to get my Vimpat from their manufacturer, UCB for free. I call UCB when I have about 10 days left & we pick a good day for it to be delivered cause it comes by FedEx & I must sign for it. I think I checked the price of the Vimpat even with GoodRX & it’s still way expensive. If you have any questions feel free to ask & I’ll try to help. Your friend in Texas, Becky

did you talk to your Dr. about samples.
A lot of times they will have them in there office. Or you can ask if they can order the drug at a cheaper price than the drug stores.
Kroger has it own pharmacy discount card that works like goodrx card.
I pay 72.00 a year for my Family membership. I'm not sure the cost for a single person. But it is well worth it. I have saved hundreds of dollar using for the past few years

Depending on what type of medical insurance you have may be the subject. I have been on Medicaid before and certain drug store would not except it. I had to find witch to go. I had good luck at Kroger.
If your medication is a name brand ask the Dr. for script of the generic drug there just as good as the name brand

Have a blessed day
